Gulmarg
Gulmarg, which literally translates to 'Meadow of Flowers,' is a premier hill station in Kashmir. In summer, the valley is a kaleidoscope of wildflowers like daisies and buttercups, while winter transforms it into one of Asia's top skiing destinations. The star attraction is the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, whisking visitors to an altitude of over 4,000 meters on Apharwat Peak for dramatic views of the Himalayas, including Nanga Parbat. Adventure seekers can enjoy world-class skiing and snowboarding in winter, or play a round at the world's highest green golf course during the summer. Trekking to the frozen Alpather Lake is another popular activity. The landscape is characterized by dense forests of pine and fir, providing a serene alpine atmosphere. After exploring, relax with a cup of traditional Kahwa tea and enjoy local Kashmiri delicacies like Rogan Josh. Gulmarg is located about 50 km from Srinagar, accessible via a scenic drive through poplar-lined avenues. It is a year-round destination: December to March is peak time for winter sports, while May to September is well-suited for nature lovers wanting to see the blooming meadows and enjoy the cool mountain breeze.
