Kasol
Kasol is a small, animated village on the banks of the Parvati River that has gained cult status among young travelers and backpackers. It is widely known as the 'Mini Israel of India' due to the significant number of Israeli tourists and the Hebrew signs that adorn many local shops and cafes. The town is the ultimate hub for hippie culture and alternative lifestyles in the Himalayas. The surrounding area has some of the finest trekking trails in India, including the legendary trek to the ancient, secluded village of Malana and the hike to the natural hot springs of Kheerganga. The roaring Parvati River provides a dramatic backdrop and numerous spots for quiet reflection. Nearby Manikaran is a major spiritual site famous for its Sikh Gurudwara and therapeutic geothermal springs. The food in Kasol is a delicious fusion of global flavors. Visitors can enjoy authentic shakshuka and hummus alongside freshly baked pizzas and spicy Indian curries. The riverside cafes are the heart of the community, where travelers share stories over ginger-lemon-honey tea. The landscape is wild and rugged, filled with pine forests and emerald-green valleys. Kasol is best reached via a scenic drive from Bhuntar. The handy time to visit is during the spring and early summer (April to June) or in the autumn (September to November). Winters are harsh and snowy, while the monsoon can lead to road closures. It is the excellent sanctuary for those looking to disconnect from the modern world.
