Dharamshala
Dharamshala, specifically the upper division of McLeod Ganj, is world-renowned as the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile. The town radiates a deep spirituality, defined by numerous monasteries and the constant presence of Tibetan monks. Visitors cherish the peaceful atmosphere and the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in Tibetan culture and Buddhist philosophy. The Tsuglagkhang Complex, which houses the Dalai Lama’s residence, is the primary pilgrimage site. Other must-see attractions include the cascading Bhagsu Waterfall and the ancient Bhagsunath Temple. For nature lovers, the trek to the Triund plateau has incomparable views of the snow-clad Dhauladhar peaks. Sports fans shouldn't miss the HPCA Stadium, often cited as the most scenic cricket ground in the world. The culinary scene is heavily influenced by Tibetan flavors, offering authentic momos, thenthuk, and butter tea. There are also many international cafes catering to the global traveler community. The region is further famous for its lush organic tea gardens located in the lower Kangra Valley. Dharamshala has its own airport at Gaggal but is also well-connected by road. The best time to visit is from September to June. Winters can be chilly but offer crisp mountain views, while spring brings animated blooming rhododendrons to the hillsides.
