Gir National Park, also known as Sasan Gir, is world-renowned as the last refuge of the Asiatic lion. The hilly landscape of dry deciduous forests and scrubland provides a well-suited habitat for these majestic predators. On a jeep safari, visitors can spot not only lions but also leopards, deer, antelopes, and over 300 species of birds. A visit to the Kamleshwar Dam is worthwhile, as crocodiles are often sighted there. The region is also home to the Maldhari tribes, who live in harmony with the local wildlife. For food lovers, the hearty Kathiawari cuisine, known for its spicy flavors, is a must-try. Access is typically via Junagadh or Rajkot Airport. The park is closed during the monsoon season (June to October). The best time to visit is from December to March, when the weather is pleasant for safaris and wildlife sightings are more frequent near water bodies.
