Gir Forest National Park (India)

Weather…

Gir Forest National Park in the state of Gujarat is the only natural habitat of the Asiatic lion remaining in the world. Established in 1965, the park covers a total area of approximately 1,412 square kilometers, with a significant portion designated as a fully protected national park. The landscape is characterized by dry deciduous forests, teak trees, and thorny scrublands, perfectly adapted to the semi-arid climate of the region. Besides lions, the sanctuary hosts a significant population of Indian leopards, hyenas, and Sambar deer. The ecosystem is sustained by seven major rivers, which are also vital for the surrounding local agriculture. Conservation efforts have successfully increased the lion population from fewer than 20 individuals in the early 20th century to over 600 today.
