The Old Town of Csongrád, also known as the Inner City, is a unique architectural ensemble located at the confluence of the Tisza and Hármas-Körös rivers. It consists of 37 protected historical fisherman's houses that faithfully preserve the vernacular architectural style of the Great Plain from the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are characterized by whitewashed walls, thatched roofs, and the distinctive 'sunray' gables, which reflect the local religious and artistic traditions. This is the only settlement in Hungary that has preserved the closed, winding street structure of the river boatmen and fishermen intact. Today, many of these houses function as museums, creative workshops, or guesthouses, allowing visitors to experience ancient crafts and traditional lifestyles. The tranquil atmosphere and proximity to the riverbank make it a significant destination for those seeking authentic cultural heritage.
