Lazberci Reservoir (Hungary)

Weather…

The Lazberc Reservoir is one of the most critical artificial lakes in northern Hungary, set between the villages of Uppony and Dedestapolcsany in the Bukk Mountains. It was constructed between 1967 and 1970 by damming the Ban stream, primarily to ensure a steady supply of high-quality drinking water for nearby industrial hubs like Kazincbarcika. Covering a surface area of about 77 hectares and holding over 6 million cubic meters of water, it remains a vital component of the regional hydraulic infrastructure. The reservoir is situated within the Lazberc Landscape Protection Area, managed by the Bukk National Park, which imposes strict environmental regulations to preserve its ecological integrity. Swimming and boating are strictly prohibited to maintain the purity of the drinking water, a policy that has helped keep the surrounding environment remarkably pristine. Hiking trails around the lake offer views of the rugged limestone cliffs of the Uppony Hills. The area is also a favored spot for recreational fishing, known for its healthy populations of carp and pike-perch.
