The transitional zone between the town and the rural Biombo region provides peaceful walking paths.

Safim is a growing town in the Biombo Region, directly bordering the Autonomous Sector of Bissau. Due to its location just 15 kilometers north of the capital's center, Safim has undergone significant urbanization in recent decades and increasingly functions as a suburb. Geographically, the town is situated at a strategic fork in the road where routes branch off north toward Senegal and east toward Bafatá. The surroundings are characterized by marshy mangrove landscapes and the estuary of the Mansôa River, which supports local agriculture and fishing. Historically, Safim served as an important military outpost during the colonial era to control access to the capital. Today, the town is a major commercial center where agricultural products from the interior are gathered for sale in Bissau. The town's infrastructure is continuously being upgraded to accommodate increasing traffic and a rising population. Safim thus serves as a crucial link between Guinea-Bissau's urban metropolis and its rural areas.
