Rio-Antirrio Bridge (Greece)

Weather…

The Rio-Antirrio Bridge, officially known as the Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge, is one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges. It connects the town of Rio on the Peloponnese with Antirrio on the Greek mainland, crossing the Gulf of Corinth. Opened in 2004, just before the Athens Olympic Games, the structure is considered a masterpiece of modern engineering. Due to difficult geological conditions, including deep water, unstable seabed, and high seismic activity, innovative techniques had to be applied. The piers rest on special gravel beds to compensate for ground movements, and the bridge can move flexibly during an earthquake. It has significantly shortened travel time across the gulf and promoted the economic development of Western Greece. With its elegant silhouette and four distinctive pylons, it is a modern landmark of Greece, impressively illuminated at night.
