Kiato is a port town on the Gulf of Corinth, located in the northern Peloponnese, and serves as the seat of the Sikyonia municipality. The town has grown into a significant commercial and transportation hub, linking the capital with the western regions of Greece. Its historical identity is deeply connected to ancient Sikyon, located just a few kilometers inland, which was one of the most influential cultural centers of antiquity, famous for its pioneering school of painting and its massive ancient theater. During the late 19th century, Kiato flourished as a major export point for currants, leading to the construction of elegant neoclassical buildings. Today, the surrounding area is one of Greece's most productive agricultural zones, specializing in lemons, apricots, and viticulture. The introduction of the modern Proastiakos suburban railway has integrated Kiato closely with Athens, making it a popular coastal destination for both residents and visitors seeking a blend of history and seaside relaxation.
