Medouneu is a remote but geographically distinct small town in the Woleu-Ntem province of northern Gabon, near the border with Equatorial Guinea. The town is located in the heart of the Crystal Mountains (Monts de Cristal), giving it a spectacular topography with steep slopes and dense cloud forests. Historically, Medouneu was an isolated outpost that gained significance primarily through its strategic proximity to the border and richness of natural resources. The local economy is based on logging and subsistence farming, with cocoa cultivation playing a role in the lower valleys.
