Mitzic is a prominent town in northern Gabon, located in the Woleu-Ntem Province, and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Woleu Department. The town is a critical transportation hub along the N2 national highway, which connects Gabon with Cameroon, making it a center for regional trade. Mitzic gained significant economic importance following the establishment of HEVEGAB in 1981, one of the country's largest rubber plantations, which provides employment for thousands of residents. Historically, the region was a site of resistance against French colonial rule in the early 20th century, which has strongly shaped local identity. In addition to rubber, forestry remains a cornerstone of the economy, with a focus on the processing of Okoumé wood. Situated on a plateau, the town enjoys a relatively milder climate compared to coastal regions, making it a key urban center in the northern province.
