Avera is a settlement on the island of Raivavae in French Polynesia, located on the north coast. The settlement is surrounded by one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Austral Islands, with crystal-clear waters and coral reefs. Avera is known for its traditional Polynesian architecture, especially the covered boat sheds and intricate wood carvings. The economy relies on subsistence agriculture, fishing, and copra cultivation. The population is about 300 people. Historically, Raivavae was a center of Polynesian culture with significant marae, some still visible near Avera. The island was Christianized by French missionaries in the 19th century.
