Geologically, the massif is composed of hard rock formations of the Guiana Shield that have resisted erosion for millions of years. The slopes of Mont Galbao exhibit extreme vertical stratification of vegetation, ranging from dense lowland rainforests to epiphyte-laden montane forests at the summit. The mountain is a core element of the Guiana Amazonian Park and plays a vital role in local water regulation, acting as a natural condenser for atmospheric moisture. Due to its remoteness, it serves as a crucial refuge for threatened large mammals such as the jaguar and the tapir.
