The Inini Chain is a prominent mountain range located in the heart of French Guiana, forming part of the geologically ancient Guiana Shield. This region is characterized by its extreme isolation and dense cover of primary tropical rainforest. Historically, the area gained prominence through the Territory of Inini, which existed as a separate administrative unit between 1930 and 1946 to facilitate the development of the interior resources. Gold deposits in the rivers and streams originating from the chain attracted numerous prospectors during the 19th and 20th centuries, significantly shaping local history. Geographically, the peaks of the chain reach elevations of approximately 400 to 500 meters above sea level, acting as vital watersheds for surrounding river systems like the Sinnamary. Today, the focus remains on protecting this fragile ecosystem, which serves as a habitat for many endemic species. Accessibility remains extremely difficult due to the lack of road infrastructure, with travel primarily occurring via waterways or by air.
