The church stands as a testament to human creativity even under the most harrowing circumstances. The colors used were derived from natural pigments found within the region. In 1978, the Saint-Joseph Church was designated a historical monument. It draws visitors from across the globe to admire what is often called the 'Sistine Chapel of the Jungle'.
