Located in the heart of the Pays de Caux in the Seine-Maritime department, Yvetot is an animated town with a uniquely fascinating history: from the 14th to the 16th century, it proudly held the status of an independent principality. Today, following extensive post-war reconstruction, the town is most famous for its remarkable modern architectural centerpiece, the Church of Saint-Pierre. This circular mid-century building features a truly wide-open array of stained glass created by artist Max Ingrand. Covering over 1,000 square meters, it is the largest continuous stained glass window in Europe, bathing the vast circular interior in a spectacular kaleidoscope of light and color. For those interested in regional heritage, the local Ivory Museum and nearby agricultural ecomuseum offer great insights into the traditional rural life and crafts of the area. The surrounding flat agricultural landscape, dotted with characteristic brick dovecotes and old manor farms, provides an excellent and easy terrain for cycling tours to soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the Normandy countryside.
