Vexin-sur-Epte is a contemporary French commune established on January 1, 2016, through the consolidation of 14 separate municipalities in the eastern part of the Eure department. This region, known as the Norman Vexin, is defined by its rolling hills and fertile plateaus that have sustained agriculture for centuries. The Epte River flows through the territory, serving as a historic boundary that once separated the Duchy of Normandy from the Kingdom of France. The architectural landscape is dotted with medieval churches and traditional timber-framed houses in villages like Écos and Fourges. Today, the economy remains rooted in grain production while increasingly embracing green tourism and artisan crafts, aided by its proximity to the world-famous gardens of Giverny and its scenic hiking routes along the river valleys.
