Tourlaville is a historic coastal town situated at the northern tip of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy, now part of the unified city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The crown jewel of the town is the Château des Ravalet, a remarkable Renaissance manor built from local blue schist in the late 16th century. The estate is surrounded by an expansive park and a 'Jardin Remarquable' (Remarkable Garden), which hosts a variety of exotic species and a historic conservatory. Geographically, Tourlaville is defined by its long coastline on the English Channel, featuring the popular Collignon beach and a large maritime recreation center. Historically, the town evolved alongside the strategic military port of Cherbourg, becoming an industrial hub for shipbuilding and later for renewable energy technologies. During World War II, it was a vital location during the Battle of Normandy as Allied forces worked to capture the deep-water port of Cherbourg. Today, Tourlaville has an animated mix of industrial dynamism and cultural richness, serving as a primary residential and commercial area that celebrates its maritime traditions and its connection to the dramatic landscapes of the Norman coast.
