Syöte (Finland)

Weather…

The Syöte National Park encompasses the southernmost fell area in Finland, located on the border between Northern Ostrobothnia and Lapland. The region is known for its vast spruce-covered slopes and characteristic peaks such as Iso-Syöte. A special meteorological phenomenon is the heavy crown snow (tykky), which transforms the forests into a surreal sculpture landscape during winter. Ecologically, the park preserves valuable primary forests and peat bogs that provide habitats for endangered species like the Siberian flying squirrel and the willow ptarmigan. Geologically, Syöte marks the southern limit of the North Finnish uplands, characterized by ancient Precambrian rock formations. Since its establishment in 2000, the park has developed into a significant center for outdoor activities, with the protection of sensitive ecosystems remaining the top priority.
