Ruka Hill (Finland)

Weather…

Ruka, also known as Rukatunturi, is a prominent elevation in Kuusamo and one of Finland's best-known winter sports areas. The hill reaches a height of 492 meters above sea level and, together with the neighboring Valtavaara, forms a significant quartzite massif. Geologically, it is a remnant of an ancient mountain range that was almost completely eroded, with the hard quartzite remaining as a monadnock. The region is famous for its exceptional snow reliability, with the ski season often lasting from October to May. Ruka is not only a center for alpine skiing but also a host for international World Cup competitions in ski jumping and cross-country skiing. The infrastructure on the mountain is state-of-the-art, with numerous lifts and slopes distributed across all flanks of the hill. From the peak, an extensive view of the untouched North Scandinavian taiga is offered. Despite intensive tourist use, the natural environment remains protected through strict environmental regulations.
