Water temperature…
Wondo Genet, translating to "Green Heaven," perfectly lives up to its name. Visitors travel to this lush, mountainous retreat primarily to relax in the natural hot springs that bubble up from the earth. The mineral-rich thermal waters are channeled into several public pools, renowned for their therapeutic properties. Surrounded by dense, spirited forests, the environment is incredibly peaceful, making it a great sanctuary away from the hustle of city life. Beyond the hot springs, the area provides excellent hiking opportunities through the surrounding hills and indigenous woodlands. The forests are teeming with wildlife; it is common to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and diverse bird species while walking along the scenic trails. Gastronomy here is simple, often featuring fresh tropical fruits like pineapples and papayas, which thrive in the fertile local climate, along with traditional Ethiopian dishes served at local lodges. Wondo Genet is located about 260 kilometers south of Addis Ababa and can be reached via a short detour from the main road near Hawassa. The journey takes around five hours. It is a well-suited year-round destination, though the warm hot springs feel particularly comforting during the cooler, rainy months from June to September.
