Malolotja Bird Habitat (Eswatini)

Weather…

The Malolotja Nature Reserve in northwestern Eswatini covers an area of over 18,000 hectares and represents one of the country's most significant bird conservation areas. The region is characterized by pristine highveld grasslands and deep river valleys that provide specialized habitats for rare species. Of particular note is the occurrence of the endangered Blue Swallow, which finds one of its few remaining breeding grounds in Southern Africa here. The rugged rock formations and mountain ridges also host colonies of the Southern Bald Ibis and various birds of prey, such as the Jackal Buzzard. The park's geological diversity, with rocks among the oldest in the world, supports a rich flora including rare Protea species. Ornithologists value the area for the observation of over 280 different bird species in a largely undisturbed environment. The preservation of these highland biotopes is of strategic importance for regional biodiversity.
