Mondi is a small suburban community in the Hhohho District about 10 kilometers east of the capital Mbabane. It lies at around 1,000 meters elevation in a fertile valley crossed by the Mbuluzi River, and is one of the settlements that has benefited over the past two decades from the expansion of greater Mbabane. Originally Mondi was a traditional farming village with subsistence agriculture, maize, beans, sweet potatoes and pumpkins shaped daily life. Today new residential neighborhoods mingle with small businesses, a primary school and shops that serve the needs of commuters to the capital. Its position at the foot of the Mdimba Mountains gives the area a special scenic charm with green hills, small waterfalls and rock formations. The climate is temperate, with cool winters (occasional frost) and warm, rainy summers. Mondi also benefits from proximity to the Highveld forestry industry and to major routes such as the MR3 highway between Mbabane and the Manzini industrial zone. Social and cultural life mostly revolves around the local community hall and the church, which shape the rhythm of village life.
