Knudshoved (Denmark)

Weather…

Knudshoved is a strategically significant headland in eastern Funen, located immediately east of Nyborg. Geologically, it acts as a barrier separating the Great Belt from Nyborg Fjord and has been shaped over centuries by ocean currents and sediment deposition. Historically, Knudshoved was of vital importance for Danish transport, as it hosted the main ferry port for crossing the Great Belt to Zealand. With the opening of the Great Belt Bridge in 1998, the ferry port lost its function, but the peninsula remained a critical anchor point for the bridge's technical infrastructure. The area also houses Slipshavn Fortress, which was established in the 17th century to secure maritime trade. Today, Knudshoved is a protected nature area, particularly known for its rich birdlife and characteristic coastal vegetation. A prominent landmark is the Knudshoved Lighthouse, which has guided maritime traffic since the mid-20th century.
