Knudshoved Odde (Denmark)

Weather…

Knudshoved Odde is a narrow, 15-kilometer-long peninsula located on the southern coast of Zealand, west of Vordingborg. Geologically, it is one of Denmark's most striking lateral moraines, formed by the advance of a branch of the Baltic glacier during the Weichselian glaciation. The landscape consists of a rhythmic series of gentle ridges and shallow depressions, presenting a classic textbook example of a glacial relief system. Surrounded by water on nearly all sides, with the Avnø Fjord to the north and Smålandsfarvandet to the south, the area exhibits high coastal dynamics and erosion patterns. Historically, the peninsula served as a vital navigation landmark for mariners and was once a prominent noble hunting estate. Today, Knudshoved Odde is a major nature reserve, renowned for hosting rare amphibian species like the fire-bellied toad. Its vegetation is a mosaic of open coastal meadows, thorny scrubland, and small wooded areas. For hikers, it provides a unique blend of geological interest and undisturbed maritime nature, with the peninsula's tip accessible only by foot or bicycle.
