Congo River (Congo - Brazzaville)

Weather…

The Congo River is the second longest river in Africa and the continent most voluminous waterway. Originating in the highlands of Zambia, it flows in a massive arc through the Central African Basin before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Reaching depths of over 220 meters, it is recognized as the deepest river in the world. It serves as the natural international boundary between the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The river is a critical transport artery for regional commerce and travel, as vast sections of the interior remain largely inaccessible by land. Its immense water volume supports a unique ecosystem inhabited by hundreds of fish species, many of which are endemic. Near Brazzaville and Kinshasa, the river expands into the Malebo Pool before descending toward the sea via the treacherous Livingstone Falls. The river enormous hydroelectric potential remains largely untapped to date. Historically, the Congo served as the primary gateway for European expeditions into the heart of Africa, though numerous rapids render parts of it unnavigable.
