Krkonoše National Park (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP), established in 1963, protects the highest mountain range in the Czech Republic, situated along the northern border with Poland. Its landscape was uniquely shaped by the last ice age, leaving behind glacial cirques, alpine tundra, and extensive peat bogs that are rare in Central Europe. The centerpiece of the park is Sněžka, which reaches 1,602 meters and is the highest peak in the country. The park is home to an extraordinary range of flora and fauna, including many glacial relics like the Krkonoše birch and the alpine pipit. Due to its outstanding ecological significance, it was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1992. The mountains also serve as the source area for major rivers, most notably the Elbe (Labe), which originates on a high plateau at an altitude of 1,386 meters. Today, the park is a vital center for environmental research and sustainable mountain tourism.
