The Port of Děčín is the most important inland port on the Elbe River, connecting Czech industry with the seaports of Hamburg and Bremen. It serves as a central hub for freight traffic, especially for coal, ores and containers.
Visiting
The port is an active industrial area, but visitors can observe the quays and transshipment operations from public areas. There are no regular guided tours, but the port viewing platform has a good view of the activity.
Where to view it
The best viewpoint is the observation platform on the port grounds, from where you can see the cranes and ship traffic on the Elbe. The opposite bank of the Elbe also has nice views of the harbour basin and the surrounding hills.
