Tisa Walls (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Tisa Walls (Tiské stěny) form a fascinating sandstone labyrinth on the western edge of Bohemian Switzerland, near the border with Germany. This rocky area extends at an altitude of about 613 meters above sea level and is part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Geologically, the bizarre rock formations were created millions of years ago through the erosion of Cretaceous sediments, leading to the towers, gorges, and caves visible today. Until the beginning of the 20th century, entering the area without a guide was strictly forbidden as it was easy to get lost in the jumble of rocks. Today, the walls are a popular destination for hikers and climbers, with rock towers bearing names like "The Mayor" or "The Stone Mushrooms." The region also served as inspiration for fantastic landscapes in literature and film, such as "The Chronicles of Narnia." The Tisa Walls provide important habitats for rare plant species and birds of prey.
