One of the city's most visited events, commemorating the founding of the cloth manufactory by Count Waldstein. With a historical procession, baroque music and a knight tournament.
Litvínov is a significant industrial town located at the foot of the Ore Mountains in northwestern Bohemia. The town's history is closely tied to the noble Waldstein family, who established one of the first cloth manufactories in Bohemia here in 1715. This industrial foundation set the stage for the town's subsequent growth. During the 19th century, brown coal mining expanded in the region, radically altering the townscape and economy. A defining milestone was the construction of the massive chemical plant (now Unipetrol) in the Záluží district during World War II, which remains one of Central Europe's largest petrochemical hubs to this day. Architectural landmarks include the Baroque Waldstein Castle and the Osada residential district, a modern garden-city style settlement built in the mid-20th century for workers. Litvínov is also nationally famous for its successful ice hockey tradition, having produced numerous NHL stars.
