Hustopeče Church (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Church of St. Wenceslas and St. Agnes in Hustopeče is a prominent example of modern sacral architecture in the South Moravian Region. The current structure replaced an original late Gothic church that partially collapsed in 1961 due to geological instability and subsequent neglect, leading to its eventual demolition. Following the Velvet Revolution, a new design by architect Ludvík Kolek was selected, and construction took place between 1990 and 1994. The architecture is characterized by its dynamic spiral form and a distinct 52-meter high tower, symbolizing spiritual growth and the connection between the earthly and the divine. Inside, the church features contemporary liturgical furnishings and artworks that reflect modern theological perspectives. It serves as a vital spiritual center for the local community and stands as a significant landmark of post-communist religious building in the Czech Republic.
