Palava Hills (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Palava Hills are a prominent limestone range in South Moravia, protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1986. The region is characterized by its exceptional flora and fauna, as well as its rich archaeological significance, most notably the find of the Venus of Dolní Věstonice. The highest peak is Děvín, reaching an altitude of 550 meters above sea level, offering wide views over the Thaya reservoirs. Geologically, the hills belong to the Outer Western Carpathians and consist mainly of Jurassic limestone. In addition to its natural beauty, Palava is famous for its viticulture, which has a centuries-old tradition here. The ruins of Děvičky and Sirotčí hrádek castles testify to the strategic importance of the area in the Middle Ages. Today, the region is a significant center for nature conservation and sustainable tourism in the Czech Republic.
