Český Brod is a historic town in the Central Bohemian Region, located approximately 35 kilometers east of Prague. The settlement was established in the 12th century by Bishop John I of Prague and was granted town rights in 1286. In 1434, the decisive Battle of Lipany took place nearby, effectively ending the Hussite Wars in the Czech lands. The town center is a designated monument zone, featuring the Gothic Church of St. Gothard and a prominent detached bell tower. Beneath the streets lies an extensive system of medieval underground cellars, portions of which are open to the public. Remnants of the 14th-century town walls highlight its former strategic importance on the trade route to Kolín. Currently, Český Brod serves as a regional hub with excellent transportation links to the capital, making it part of the Prague metropolitan commuter belt.
