💡 Tips
- The best time to walk along the impressive double-lined medieval walls is early morning when the light is softest.
- Rent a bike; the flat trails along the Elbe (Labe) river are excellent and connect easily to neighboring towns.
- Street parking in the historic center can be tight; look for designated lots just outside the walls.
- The town is famously linked to writer Bohumil Hrabal. Follow the local 'Hrabal's trail' to see places from his life and books.

Nymburk, a scenic town in the Central Bohemian Region, was founded in the 13th century by King Přemysl Otakar II. The town is known for its impressive Gothic brick fortifications, which are among the best-preserved in the Czech Republic. A walk along the walls has magnificent views of the old town and the St. Giles' Church. Nymburk is also inextricably linked with the famous Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal, who grew up here. Literature lovers can follow in his footsteps and visit the local brewery, which plays an important role in his works and produces excellent beer. The gastronomy in Nymburk features traditional Czech dishes; be sure to try 'Svíčková', a beef sirloin with a cream-based sauce. The city is easily accessible from Prague by train or car in about an hour. The best time to visit is late spring or early autumn when the weather is pleasant and the city is less crowded.
