Kolin Battlefield (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Kolín Battlefield marks the site of a pivotal military engagement during the Seven Years' War, which took place on June 18, 1757. It was here that the Prussian army under King Frederick II faced the Austrian forces commanded by Field Marshal Leopold Joseph von Daun. The Austrian victory ended the Prussian siege of Prague and forced Frederick the Great to execute a strategic retreat from Bohemia. The battle was characterized by fierce fighting across hilly terrain, where Prussian cavalry suffered heavy losses against well-entrenched Austrian infantry positions. Today, a prominent monument on the Křečhoř Hill commemorates the fallen soldiers and the decisive Habsburg success. The site is designated as a historical memorial area and serves military historians as a key resource for studying 18th-century warfare tactics. Much of the rural landscape remains unchanged, allowing for a clear reconstruction of the troop movements.
