Becov nad Teplou

Bečov nad Teplou is an architectural gem in West Bohemia, featuring a unique combination of a medieval fortress and a Baroque chateau perched above the Teplá River. It gained international fame as the home of the 13th-century Reliquary of St. Maurus, the second most important goldsmith artifact in the Czech Republic after the Crown Jewels. Visitors can choose from several tours exploring the Gothic fortress, the Baroque interiors, or the dramatic story of the reliquary's rediscovery. The artifact was hidden under the chapel floor for decades and found in 1985 after an international search. The chateau gardens and the town's botanical garden provide beautiful spaces for relaxation. Local inns offer traditional Bohemian cuisine, including game dishes and local beers. Located just 20 km south of Karlovy Vary, it is a great day trip destination within the famous spa triangle. The best time to visit is from April to October, when the gardens are in full bloom and all tours are available. The town itself is a protected heritage site with characterful burgher houses and narrow streets. Hiking trails lead from the town into the Slavkovský Forest (Kaiserwald), making it an excellent base for exploring the natural beauty of the region.
