Supetar is the administrative center and the largest town on the island of Brač, situated on the northern coast opposite the city of Split. The town began to expand in the 16th century around a sheltered bay and is named after Saint Peter, the patron saint of the local parish church. Its historic core showcases classic Dalmatian architecture constructed from the world-renowned white Brač limestone. A primary cultural landmark is the Petrinović family mausoleum, a monumental work by sculptor Toma Rosandić that dominates the local cemetery's skyline. The Baroque Parish Church of the Annunciation houses significant altarpieces and is reached via a grand staircase leading from the harbor. Today, Supetar functions as the island's most important transportation hub, hosting the main ferry terminal connecting Brač to the mainland. Beyond its administrative role, the town is a major tourist destination featuring numerous pebble beaches and pine forests along the coastline. The surrounding landscape is characterized by ancient olive groves and vineyards, which have sustained the local economy for centuries.
