Donji Humac is situated on a hill in the interior of Brač island and is one of the oldest preserved settlement centers of the island. The place is inseparably linked to the famous white Brač stone, which has been quarried here since antiquity. Evidence of this craftsmanship is found everywhere in the village, from elaborate stone facades to sculptures displayed in the alleys and public squares. The village center is dominated by the parish church of Saints Fabian and Sebastian (crkva sv. Fabijana i Sebastijana), whose bell tower is decorated with filigree stonework. Nearby is the Kopačina cave, a significant archaeological site containing evidence of human life from the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. Donji Humac remains a center for artists and stonemasons today, whose workshops can be visited. Gastronomy in Donji Humac is legendary. The local specialty 'Vitalac' (lamb offal on a spit) is a protected cultural asset. Traditional konobas also serve excellent Brač cheese and olive oil. The place provides an authentic atmosphere that goes far beyond the usual beach pleasures, providing deep insight into island culture.
