Škrip is the most historical village on the island of Brač, situated on a hill inland, about 10 kilometers from Supetar. The village is home to a history spanning over 3,000 years, from the Illyrians and Romans to the Venetians. Particularly impressive are the massive 'Cyclopean walls' built by the Illyrians, upon which later civilizations erected their structures. The village itself feels timeless, with its grey stone houses all topped with traditional white stone slabs. The heart of Škrip is the Museum of the Island of Brač, housed in the Radojković Tower. Here, visitors can admire archaeological finds, including a Roman mausoleum that legend says is the final resting place of Prisca and Valeria, the wife and daughter of Emperor Diocletian. Another must-see is the Olive Oil Museum, which vividly documents the centuries-old tradition of oil production on the island. The scent of stone and Mediterranean herbs constantly lingers in the air. A stroll through the narrow alleys leads past the baroque Parish Church of St. Helen and gives fantastic views over the Brač Channel and the mainland. Škrip is not a typical beach resort, but for any culture enthusiast. The tranquility of the place and its deep historical roots make it one of the most authentic experiences in all of Dalmatia. Here, you can discover how the famous white Brač stone has shaped people's lives for millennia.
