Pražnica is situated on a plateau in the interior of Brač island at an elevation of about 391 meters. The village is one of the oldest settlements on the island, characterized by its distinct architecture made of local white limestone. For centuries, inhabitants have been dedicated to livestock farming, particularly sheep, and olive cultivation. The location is good for travelers seeking authentic life away from the touristy coastal resorts. In the center of Pražnica stands the parish church of Saint Anthony (sv. Antun), built in the 15th century. The church houses valuable stone reliefs and altars that testify to the craftsmanship of local masters. The village surroundings are crisscrossed by dry-stone walls (suhozid) that demarcate grazing lands and represent a protected cultural heritage. Nearby, there are also archaeological sites from the Roman era, indicating early settlement. Visitors should definitely try the local sheep cheese and olive oil, produced using traditional methods. Pražnica is an excellent starting point for hiking and cycling trips to Vidova Gora, the highest point of all Adriatic islands. The road connection to Pučišća and Gornji Humac allows for easy exploration of the entire island. Here, you experience a silence broken only by the ringing of church bells or the bleating of sheep.
