Žabica is located on the outskirts of the town of Gospić, in the vast and mystical plateau of Lika. The village is crossed by the Lika River, one of the longest losing rivers in Europe, whose clear water defines the landscape. The surroundings are characterized by wide meadows, dense coniferous forests, and the majestic view of the Velebit mountains that separate the region from the sea. The architecture in Žabica reflects Lika's continental climate, with houses often having steep roofs for snowy winters. In the region, the tradition of animal husbandry and the cultivation of the famous Lika potatoes is still very much alive. The gastronomy is hearty and based on local meat, sauerkraut, and the well-known 'Škripavac' cheese, which can be tasted in the surrounding farms. For nature lovers, Žabica is a good starting point. Whether fishing by the river, cycling through the plateau, or challenging hikes in the Velebit National Park, the possibilities for outdoor activities are diverse. Also, Nikola Tesla's birthplace in nearby Smiljan is only a short drive away. Žabica features an authentic experience of rural Croatia, characterized by the raw beauty of nature and the tranquility of an almost untouched landscape.
