Water temperature…
Lanišće is the administrative and cultural center of the Ćićarija region, located in the mountainous northern part of the Istrian peninsula. Due to its altitude and lower temperatures, the area is often nicknamed the 'Siberia of Istria'. The village is surrounded by a spectacular karst landscape, with white limestone ridges and dense forests, offering an atmosphere of total isolation and peace. Local tradition is closely linked to shepherding, with Lanišće being renowned for the sheep cheese produced on the high plateaus of the Ćićarija mountain. In the autumn season, the surrounding forests become a favorite spot for truffle and wild mushroom hunters. The village's architecture preserves Istrian rural features, with sturdy houses built to withstand the mountain climate. For outdoor enthusiasts, Lanišće represents the gateway to the Orljak peak and numerous other trails leading toward the Učka Nature Park. Hiking here provides the chance to see rare flora and panoramic views that, on clear days, reach as far as the Gulf of Trieste. It is the well-suited destination for those wishing to discover an unexplored Istria, where nature dominates and millennial traditions are still very much alive.
