The village of Grobnik in the Čavle municipality is one of the most historical places in the Kvarner region. Located on a strategic hill, the place is dominated by the imposing Kaštel Grobnik. This fortress was built in the Middle Ages by the Frankopan noble family and served for centuries as a defense post against Ottoman incursions. Today, the castle houses a gallery, a museum, and serves as a backdrop for numerous cultural events. The village itself has preserved its medieval layout, with narrow streets and stone houses clustered around the fortress. From the castle walls, there is a sweeping view of the Grobnik field (Grobničko polje), historically known as the site of the legendary battle against the Mongols in 1242. In the plain below the village is the famous Automotodrom Grobnik, Croatia's only international racing circuit. This contrast between the historic heritage on the hill and modern motorsport in the valley makes the region attractive. The local cuisine features specialties like 'Palenta kompirica', a traditional dish of cornmeal and potatoes that is a must-try.
