Kraljevica is situated at the entrance to the Bay of Bakar, at a strategic location on the Kvarner coast. The town is inseparable from Croatian history, especially the Zrinski and Frankopan noble families, who built two impressive castles here in the 17th century. The "Stari Grad" castle and the grander "Nova Kraljevica" were sites of major historical events, including the plotting of the conspiracy against the Habsburgs. Besides its cultural heritage, Kraljevica is known for one of the oldest shipyards in the Mediterranean, founded in 1729 by Austrian Emperor Charles VI. This maritime tradition continues to shape the townscape and local economy today. For vacationers, the Oštro peninsula features lovely beaches and a campsite shaded by old pine trees. The bridge to the island of Krk is in the immediate vicinity, making Kraljevica an important transport hub. Kraljevica gives a calm atmosphere, good for visitors who wish to combine history with recreation. Local restaurants serve Kvarner specialties, focusing on fresh regional fish and seafood. The view of Krk Island and the sparkling sea makes a stay here particularly delightful.
