Throughout the centuries, the castle was owned by influential noble families, including the Frankopans and the Zrinskis, who utilized it as a strategic defensive bastion against Ottoman forces. Architecturally, the castle features a rectangular courtyard enclosed by three round corner towers and a dominant square keep. The top of the keep now serves as a scenic lookout point, offering panoramic views of the Kupa River and the starry layout of Karlovac city. Today, the castle houses a branch of the Karlovac City Museum, showcasing exhibits on regional history, weaponry, and medieval life. The structure underwent a significant romantic-style restoration in the late 19th century, which preserved its imposing character. It remains a popular cultural destination, frequently hosting historical reenactments and art exhibitions.
