Badanj is a suburb of the town of Drniš, located on the edge of the fertile Petrovo polje in the Šibenik-Knin region. The settlement has deep historical significance, as it houses the remains of the medieval Gradina fortress, which once guarded the entrance to the Čikola Canyon. The region is characterized by a rugged karst landscape that contrasts with the green banks of the Čikola River. Visitors often use Badanj as a base for exploring nearby Krka National Park, especially the Visovac Lake and Roški Slap waterfall. The area is also known for the work of the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, whose mausoleum is located in the neighboring village of Otavice. The architecture in Badanj is typical of the Dalmatian hinterland (Zagora), featuring robust stone houses and small chapels. The local economy is traditionally driven by agriculture and livestock. Badanj and the entire Drniš region are world-famous for Drniški Pršut, an air-dried ham that gains its unique aroma from the special Bura wind. For nature enthusiasts, the Čikola Canyon has spectacular hiking trails and a zipline that is among the most exciting in Croatia. The town of Drniš, with its Ottoman remains and fortifications, is just a short walk away.
