Žitnić is located in the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland, just a few kilometers south of the town of Drniš. Historically, the village is best known as a strategic railway junction where lines to Split and Šibenik diverge. Žitnić railway station was once a symbol of the region's industrial progress and still plays a role in regional transport today. The landscape around Žitnić is characterized by the rugged beauty of the Dalmatian karst and its proximity to Krka National Park. Spectacular waterfalls and monasteries of the park are only a short distance away. The region has a turbulent history dating back to Roman times, evidenced by ruins in the wider area. The village itself gives a quiet, rural atmosphere with traditional Dalmatian stone houses. Culinary-wise, Žitnić is part of the famous Drniš region, world-renowned for its award-winning Pršut (cured ham). Local producers emphasize traditional drying methods using the Bura, the strong northeastern wind. Visitors can experience the authentic life of the Zagora and taste local specialties directly at the farms. The area is also excellent for cycling trips through the expansive Petrovo polje.
