💡 Tips

  • You can reach the park by an excursion boat directly into the bay, or by taking a ferry to Sali (on Dugi Otok island) and then exploring by scooter or bike.
  • Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday heat and the crowds from the tour boats.
  • The salt lake 'Mir' is warmer and saltier than the sea, which makes for a unique swimming experience.
  • The views from the top of the high 'Stene' cliffs are wide-open, but be extremely careful near the edge as there are no safety fences.
  • Bring cash for the entrance fee and for the simple restaurants (konobas), as card payment isn't always reliable.

🍽 Food

🍽
Freshly Grilled Fish

Enjoy the catch of the day at one of the simple 'konobas' in Mir bay. The atmosphere is authentic, but expect island prices.

🍽
Dalmatian Prosciutto and Cheese

A platter of local 'pršut' (dry-cured ham) and cheese is a great snack. You can find it at the restaurants inside the park or in the villages on Dugi Otok.

🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots

🛍
Local Olive Oil

Dugi Otok is famous for its olive oil. Buy a bottle directly from a local producer in villages like Sali or Žman for an authentic souvenir.

🛍
Park Souvenirs

There is a small shop at the park's entrance that sells basic souvenirs related to the park's fauna and flora.

🧘
Hiking trails to the cliffs

Most tourists congregate at the salt lake. The hiking paths leading up to the cliffs are much quieter and offer spectacular views of the open sea.

🧘
Far shores of the Salt Lake

Walk around the lake, away from the main swimming area, to find a peaceful spot by the water surrounded by pine trees.

🧘
Hidden coves

If you arrive by private boat, explore the park's coastline to find your own secluded bay for swimming and relaxing.

Telašćica Nature Park is located on the southeastern tip of Dugi Otok island, home to one of the largest and safest natural harbors in the Adriatic. The park is characterized by three main features: the long Telašćica bay, the 'Stene' vertical cliffs, and the saltwater Lake Mir. This unique lake is connected to the sea through underground channels and is known for its higher temperature and therapeutic properties. The park's wildlife is diverse, featuring protected wild donkeys that often interact with tourists. The cliffs reach heights of up to 161 meters, offering panoramic views where dolphins can frequently be spotted in the open sea. Archaeological sites, including Roman remains, indicate that the area has been inhabited for millennia. Marked hiking trails lead visitors through pine forests and ancient olive groves. Most visitors arrive by boat from Zadar or Sali, but the park is also accessible by road. Walking around Lake Mir takes about 45 minutes and provides access to the most spectacular viewpoints on the cliffs. Several local restaurants in the bay offer Dalmatian specialties, such as grilled seafood and local wines. The best time to visit is from May to September, with early mornings being convenient for those seeking to experience the park's natural silence before the arrival of excursion boats.
