Veli Iž is located in a sheltered bay on the northeastern side of Iž Island, part of the Zadar archipelago. The village is unique in the Adriatic for its preservation of the 'Iška keramika', a traditional pottery craft where vessels are fired on an open flame. This ancient technique is still practiced today, and visitors can explore its history in the local ethnographic collection. The townscape features narrow stone streets, historic captains' houses, and the parish church of St. Peter and Paul. The waterfront is the center of social life, especially during the 'Iška fešta' in summer, where the 'King of Iž' is elected in a tradition dating back centuries. The harbor is a favorite among sailors, offering a modern marina and a tranquil atmosphere away from the mainland crowds.
